September 20, 2023, Akron, Ohio — VANTAGE Aging, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering adults 55 and older, is thrilled to announce a new initiative aimed at helping older adults reenter the workforce. Beginning in October, Vantage Aging will host monthly virtual workshops, providing valuable insights and guidance on various job search and career development topics for seniors. These workshops are open to seniors across the region and will be held on the second Thursday of each month at 10 A.M.
The virtual workshops allow older adults to enhance their skills, improve their resumes, and develop a winning mindset for their job search. Participants can preregister to receive a workshop link or watch them live on Facebook. The upcoming workshop schedule is as follows:
· October 12, 2023: Resume Writing Tips for Seniors
· November 9, 2023: Developing a Winning Mindset
· December 14, 2023: Job Search Strategies - Helping Older Workers Land a Job
· January 11, 2024: Seniors, Computers, & Cybersecurity
These workshops align with Vantage Aging's expanded efforts to empower older job seekers. The organization has recently extended its services to 37 counties in Indiana, offering paid, hands-on training opportunities for job seekers aged 55 and older. This initiative enhances their existing skills and strengthens their resumes, making them more competitive in today's job market.
Vantage Aging now administers the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in 75 counties across Ohio and Indiana, with funding from the Department of Labor (DOL), Ohio Department of Labor (ODL), Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. (IDWD).
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), operated by Vantage Aging, is a federally funded initiative designed for income-eligible individuals aged 55 and older, allowing them to re-enter the workforce. Participants contribute their skills to nonprofit and government organizations while gaining new experiences and improving their job market competitiveness.
