Join our international non-profit research organization and help bridge environment and development science to policy and practice. Stockholm Environment Institute is a world-leading research institute in its field. We are a dynamic and expanding workplace that employs around 130 people in an activity-based HQ office in central Stockholm. We have an additional 200 employees in seven centres around the world. 

We are seeking an intern for the Finance for Sustainable Development Programme (FSD), located within the Development Policy and Finance Team (DPF) at our Stockholm HQ.

Project overview and tasks
Finance for Sustainable Development is SEI’s new research and engagement programme dedicated to enabling greater investment in sustainable projects, particularly in developing countries. The FSD programme will build on SEI’s track-record of working with international climate and development finance. The mandate of FSD is to support the scaling of investment into sustainable economic activity needed to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the climate targets in the Paris Agreement.

Our finance for sustainability portfolio of research projects includes work on risk mitigation for renewable energy investments in Sub-Saharan Africa, policy support for international climate finance institutions, the alignment of development finance institution investments and national SDG priorities, blended finance to mobilize private sector investment, sustainable finance instruments and practices (e.g., labelled bonds), and training on public and private sustainable finance.

The intern will work with SEI’s Development Policy and Finance team and the internship may consist of the following tasks:

conducting literature reviews and synthesizing information
supporting with workshop organization and delivery
supporting with communication activities
Profile
We are looking for a person who is studying finance, economics, political science, international development, sustainability studies, or similar, with a special interest in the role of investments as an enabler for sustainable development.

The ideal candidate will possess analytical and communication skills (both written and oral). You are willing to work in a collaborative environment and have a natural ability to coordinate and drive tasks forward.

Formal qualifications and knowledge
current enrolment in a master’s programme
fluency in English
experience in undertaking communication activities (organizing events, communication outreach, website and social media)
Location
The internship is based at SEI HQ in Stockholm. An in-person internship involving office visits at least 1-2 times per week is preferred, but an online internship may also be possible.
